They have several layers, making it possible for proprietary, fabric-based material to be incorporated into them. The material used to create these filters are polyethylene-based. Air passes over the electrostatic filter, making a static charge. This process is similar to rubbing your bare feet on your carpet and shocking your loved ones. 

This process is how the filter can create the appropriate electrostatic charge. The static charge will attract the dirt particles to clean the air inside of your home. The electrostatic filter also contains microbial components to ensure no mold growth will ever be present within the filter.
