Does your kitchen smell like the dinner you made last week? When was the last time you cleaned or replaced your range filter? A lot of homeowners and renters don't know that there is a filter in the hood above their stove and therefore neglect its maintenance.
As always, this depends on how often you cook and what kind of food you cook. If you're just steaming vegetables every so often, you won't have to worry about that filter too much. If your frying food on the regular, then you'll definitely want to pay more attention to the filter.
We recommend you check and clean your filter at least once a month.
Soak it in the sink with hot tap water and dish soap. Allow the fully submerged filter to soak for 5 minutes. Take it out and if it looks clean, then dry it and replace it. If it still looks a little greasy, soak it for another 5 or so.
Do not put it in the dishwasher; the chemicals attack the aluminum and degrade the integrity of the filter.
In short, you don't. Carbon pads are expendable, meaning you don't clean it; you replace it. Many filters have removable carbon pads, so make sure to take that out before soaking the filter. If your carbon pad is dirty, we sell replacement pads.
